Mackenzie and Herbie's wedding at Penobscot Bay Estate perfectly captured this essence with their thoughtfully crafted celebration that embraced simplicity, nature, and their deep Maine roots.
High School Sweethearts Come Full Circle
Mackenzie and Herbie's love story began as high school sweethearts at MDI High School. Both later graduated from the University of Maine, keeping their connection to the state they love so deeply. Their proposal story is equally charming – while camping near Cobscook Bay State Park in October 2023, Herbie arranged a special paint and sip date. As they revealed their paintings to each other, Herbie's canvas displayed his proposal, asking Mackenzie to marry him. The rest, as they say, is history.
A Celebration of Maine's Natural Beauty
As both grew up in Maine, they wanted their wedding inspiration to reflect the simplicity and beauty of nature. Their vision materialized through thoughtful details: birch candle centerpieces handcrafted by Mackenzie's uncle, floral arrangements from a family friend in Bar Harbor, and a color palette anchored by warm terracotta tones in the bridesmaids' dresses.
The floral elements featured silver dollar eucalyptus throughout the arch, bouquets, and boutonnières, complementing the fall foliage while adding warmth and color to their overall aesthetic. Rather than competing with the breathtaking waterfront setting at Penobscot Bay Estate, these natural elements enhanced the inherent beauty of the midcoast Maine location.
Personal Touches for a Day to Remember
To celebrate Maine's outdoor charm, the couple incorporated lawn games like cornhole and Connect Four to entertain guests while they soaked in the coastal atmosphere. The waterfront venue provided stunning views that added an extra layer of magic to their celebration.
For their attire, the couple chose complementary looks that balanced classic style with unique elements. Herbie opted for a timeless, classic suit that aligned with their theme of elegant simplicity. Mackenzie sought a dress that was classic with a distinctive twist – creating a perfect harmony between their looks.

As their photographer, one of my favorite parts of the day was sneaking away with Mackenzie and Herbie for sunset portraits along the water. With the golden light washing over Penobscot Bay, we captured some truly breathtaking images that showcased not just the beautiful midcoast Maine setting, but also that unmistakable newlywed glow. Watching them take that quiet moment together – away from the celebration – to simply soak in their newly married status was something special. These intimate sunset moments often produce the most authentic and emotional photographs of the day, and Mackenzie and Herbie's were no exception.
The way they looked at each other as the sun dipped below the horizon over the bay reflected everything their wedding day represented: a celebration of natural beauty, meaningful connection, and the beginning of their journey together as husband and wife.

Remember to enjoy the process, it's a day to celebrate you both and the love you share. Things will not go as planned, just be ready to deal with them together and nothing in life is perfect. That's what makes life amazing and the same will be for your big day. Just enjoy being together!"
